You all must have eaten the traditional south indian Idli. I have tried to do some innovation and give it some chinese punch. Hope you like this Chinese Idli.

Ingredients:

1. 1 small sized red bellpepper
2. 1 small sized yellow bellpepper
3. 1 medium sized onion
4. Spring onion greens (finely chopped)
5. 2 cups Sooji(Semolina)
6. 1.5 cups of curd
7. 2 cups of water
8. 1 Tsp baking powder
9. Salt to taste
10. 1 Tsp soya sauce
11. 2 Tsp tomato ketchup
12. 1 Tsp Rai/mustard seeds
13. 2-3 whole red chillies
14. Few curry leaves

Method:

Let us first make the idlis.

Take a bowl and mix sooji, curd, water, pinch of salt, and baking powder. Mix it well and keep aside for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, grease the idli moulds with little oil, put the batter in moulds and steam.

I usually steam them in microwave for 5 minutes.

Now, for the Chinese punch.........

1. Cut the bellpeppers and onions and medium sized squares.
2. Take a wok (kadai) and put some oil to it.
3. Add curry leaves, red chillies and mustard seeds to the oil.
4. As soon as the mustard seeds crackle, put onions, bellpeppers and spring onions.
5. Saute them for 2 minutes. Do not overcook...we need to maintain their crunchiness
6. Put the tomato ketchup, soya sauce and salt to it.
7. Cut the idlis in halves and put them in this mixture
8. Serve them hot
